Déjà vu:
Desperate people climbing over walls,
Fighting each other for freedom,
Mothers handing over babies,
Crowding airplanes,
Young men and women risking their lives
Trying to honor their promises.
Fear, danger, heartbreak.
I watched it once when I was a child.
I watch it again as an adult, and I am just as sad and scared for the struggling.
This time, we should have done better, but it seems we did not.
This time, we have to do better for those coming home.
We cannot repeat every mistake.
This time, we need more than a monument for those lost.
This time, we need to love the survivors.
